Season’s greetings readers! It’s December, the time of year when all is merry and bright. Between cozy nights in and fancy nights out, December can be a busy month! There’s always a special energy surrounding this month; a buzz, a warmth, an anticipation that the end of the year is near and with it, a respite from the hustle and bustle of every day life. A time for merry making and cheer. But aside from all the festivities of the season and all the intangibles that make up something we call “Christmas Spirit,” there’s another spirit we want to focus on here: The Spirit of Giving. Taking our cue from Charles Dickens’ Ghost of Christmas Present who encourages generosity and goodwill, we’d like to shine the light on our clients who are dedicated to both of those themes: The National PKU Alliance.
First, let’s start with PKU. Phenylketonuria (known as PKU) is an inherited metabolic disease affecting the brain. People living with PKU cannot process a substance called phenylalanine (Phe) and as a result, Phe is toxic to their brain. Testing for PKU is typically done as part of regular newborn screening. Fortunately, treatments are available and that’s where the National PKU Alliance enters the scene. “The NPKUA is a collaboration of PKU community members joining together as a national voice and supporting local efforts to raise PKU awareness and drive advocacy and education, while ultimately looking for a cure.” The National PKU Alliance works to advance the science of PKU through the most promising and peer reviewed research that has and will continue to lead to new therapy discoveries, treatments and ultimately, a cure.
Like all non-profits, the National PKU Alliance relies on donations from generous individuals and groups as well as an annual fundraiser in order to advance their cause. In 2018, Morgan Events was contacted by the National PKU Alliance to produce the Lifting the Limits San Francisco Bay Area Gala Fundraiser. After 4 years of planning with delays brought on by the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Lifting the Limits San Francisco Bay Area Gala Fundraiser was finally held on Saturday November 5, 2022 at the Signia by Hilton in downtown San Jose, California. And what a success it was! Due to the generosity and support from sponsors, donors, attendees and the PKU community, this event raised over $470,000 that night for PKU research! Take a look below and you’ll notice the generous spirits in abundance. The hugs, the smiles, the auction participants! Morgan Events is honored to have played our part planning and executing this successful San Francisco Bay Area gala fundraiser.
To all of the sponsors and donors who supported this fundraiser and the National PKU Alliance’s efforts all year long, the team at Morgan Events salutes you. Your Spirit of Giving is kind and generous. Because of you, people living with PKU will have more support from a national community who are all striving towards a cure. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
If the Spirit of Giving has touched your heart this holiday season, please consider a direct donation to the National PKU Alliance by visiting https://www.npkua.org/Forms/General-Donation or donate to another charity of your choice.
From all of us at Morgan Events, we wish you a season of light, love and goodwill to all. Cheers!
